Justin Slaughter
Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director

Justin Slaughter is a Principal, Managing Director and CEO of AgTrade Group / AUSTREX and  affiliated companies. Founded in 1973, AUSTREX is one of the largest livestock, genetics and protein supply businesses in the world. Justin has over 25 years’ experience in developing global markets for Australian livestock and agricultural products, is a past Livestock Industry Young Achiever and represented 44 members as Chairman of the Queensland Livestock Exporters Association (QLEA) for eight years. Since 2015 he has been a Director, appointed the cattle representative of the Australian Live Exporters Council (ALEC). Justin was born in Mount Isa, raised on a farm in the South Burnett region of Queensland and has a passion for developing global markets for quality Australian produce.

Dr Richard Trivett
Chairman

47 years with AgTrade/AUSTREX

 

Dr Richard Trivett studied Veterinary Science at the University of Queensland and worked in private practice until joining GRM International in 1968. After heavy involvement in the development and management of large-scale cattle operations in Northern Australia, he oversaw the establishment and growth of AUSTREX (from within GRM) to the global livestock trading company it is today. Richard was a prevous member and Chairman of the Livestock Export Research and Development Committee (LERDAC) and chairs the Australian Rural Export Animal Welfare Committee.

Andrew Morgan
Non-executive Director

Andrew is a Director of AUSTREX and Managing Director of Catapult Partners, a boutique corporate advisory and private equity firm and shareholder of AgTrade/AUSTREX. Andrew holds a Bachelor of Commerce, and a Bachelor of Laws with Honours from the University of Queensland, a Graduate Diploma in Applied Finance and Investment from the Securities Institute of Australia, and a Directors Diploma from the Australian Institute of Company Directors. Andrew is a Solicitor of the Supreme Courts of Queensland and New South Wales.

Jake Morse
Executive Director and General Manager, Northern

15 years with AgTrade/AUSTREX

 

Jake is responsible for the export of cattle from Northern Australia and has more than 15 years’ experience in the global cattle export trade, ranging from operational management to international sales and marketing.  Jake holds a Bachelor of Applied Science in Agriculture, majoring in Beef Marketing.

Tom Slaughter
General Manager, Southern and New Zealand

9 years with AgTrade/AUSTREX

 

Tom has significant experience in Europe, Russia and the Middle East to give him a strong foundation in international trade and risk management, and has previously overseen an annual export volume of 50,000 head of high quality breeding cattle. He has bachelor qualifications in Economics and Finance from the University of Queensland and places a strong focus on animal welfare and the continuous improvement of efficiency and quality across the export supply chain.

Jodie Briggs
General Manager, People and Culture

Jodie joined AUSTREX in 2010 and now leads human resources, recruitment and professional development for both the AgTrade parent company and its portfolio of businesses, a role covering a team of over 125 people across Australia and offshore locations. Before joining the company, Jodie had a career spanning a diverse range of people, training and development roles, and has lived and worked on pastoral properties in outback Queensland, New South Wales and the Northern Territory. Jodie holds a Bachelor of Arts (Psychology) from the University of Queensland.

Peilin Yin
Manager, Regional China

18 years with AgTrade/AUSTREX

 

Prior to joining AUSTREX in 2001, Peilin worked with Austrade as a Senior Business Development Manager in the Australian Consulate-General in Guangzhou. Upon joining the company, she was critical to AUSTREX beginning exports to the Chinese market in 2002 and has continued to contribute significantly to the growth of the business in the Greater China region. In recent years, Peilin has focused on AUSTREX’s sales and marketing, customer relations management, project management and coaching younger China team members.  

Nick Thompson
General Manager, Paradigm Foods

 

Nick fostered a passion for agriculture from a young age growing up on his family’s property in country New South Wales. Throughout his career, he has worked within the food industry, with experience in developing branded meat programs across the Middle East, Asia and China. Highly respected for his industry knowledge, Nick delivers value through his outstanding relationships with his team and supply chain partners.

Kurt Allalemdjian
Manager, Treasury

4 years with AgTrade/AUSTREX

 

Kurt has worked in markets since 2005 across a variety of asset classes including equities, commodities and foreign exchange. He holds degrees in business and in quantitative finance.
Kurt joined AgTrade/AUSTEX in 2015 overseeing the group’s foreign exchange exposures, derivative requirements and quantitative research projects.

Zephien Prinsloo
Manager, Business Analysis

Zephien has a bachelor’s degree in Industrial Engineering from the University of Pretoria, South Africa and an MBA with Wits Business School, South Africa. Zephien has wide supply chain experience in the Fast Moving Consumer Goods industry across factory logistics, sales and operations planning, and analytics and strategy. Prior to joining Austrex, Zephien was an analytics manager for the largest consumer goods company in South Africa and joined AUSTREX upon relocation to Brisbane in January 2019.

Warrick Barrett
Manager, Northern Export

6 years with AgTrade (AUSTREX)

 

Warrick has over 18 years’ experience in the cattle industry in both the tropical and temperate regions of Australia.  Commencing his livestock career with Wesfarmers Landmark in the Gippsland region, Warrick’s worked in various roles within agency businesses including managing Elders Katherine before joining AUSTREX based out of Darwin in 2013. Warrick’s livestock procurement and logistics role includes matching Australian producers to Asian markets.  His responsibilities extend over three Australian States and multiple ports including Darwin, Townsville and  Broome. Today, Warrick is responsible for sourcing over 125,000 head of cattle annually for livestock export orders.

Mike Ball
Chief Operating Officer

25 years with Wesfamers; joined AgTrade January 2019


Prior to his appointment at AUSTREX, Mike spent 25 years with the Wesfarmers Group, where he held a range of leadership roles in agribusiness, gas exports and mining in Western Australia, Vietnam, Japan and Queensland. He was appointed Chief Financial Officer and Executive Director of Wesfarmers Resources division based in Queensland in 2008 and oversaw global-scale mines across three Australian states. Mike has qualifications in Law (UWA), is admitted as a solicitor, has post-graduate finance qualifications (FINSIA) and has completed the Advanced Management Program at INSEAD.

Tianzhao (Tommy) Gu
Director, China

8 years with AgTrade/AUSTREX

 

Tianzhao (Tommy) graduated from Nanjing Agricultural University with a Masters in Veterinary Science and began his career as official vet for the Shenzhen Entry-Exit Inspection and Quarantine Bureau, where he gained an in-depth knowledge of livestock export policies and operations. Since joining AUSTREX in 2009, Tommy has provided critical advice and guidance to the company and been actively involved in business negotiations and supporting valued Chinese customers.

David Reed
General Manager, AUSTREX Elite Breeding

5 years with AgTrade/AUSTREX

 

David oversees the Japan F1 Wagyu feeder and dairy breeder businesses, as well as the AUSTREX air freight business which exports high genetic value breeding cattle, sheep, milking goats and alpacas to multiple markets. He joined AUSTREX in 2014, having previously worked with Fairfax Media and Elders International, where he developed a strong background in agribusiness and international trade. David grew up on a mixed farming enterprise in Mid North South Australia and has qualifications in marketing through a Bachelor of Management from the University of SA.

Charlie Brown
General Manager, ThriveAgri

 

Charlie has worked in commodity markets for more than 18 years and has qualifications spanning Agribusiness, Export Management and Financial Markets. He spent time in London and Switzerland running a trading team for one of Europe’s largest hedge funds and, in 2012, returned to Australia to trade grain for Cargill. In 2018, Charlie joined the AgTrade group to establish ThriveAgri, a physical agricultural commodities trading business supplying nutritional feed products to global livestock supply chains. Charlie grew up on a mixed farming operation on Queensland’s Darling Downs.

Jeffery Fry
Manager, Technologies

Jeffery commenced his career in technology more than 15 years ago with AUSTREX/GRM and has progressed to work with cutting-edge technologies across livestock traceability systems, mining and world-class Slope Stability Radars. Living and working in multiple countries around the world has broadened his experience and ability to adapt to the ever-changing technologies market. He has a passion for continually redefining solutions, learning and providing strong leadership.

Libbi Thompson
Manager, Northern Operations

7 years with AgTrade/AUSTREX

 

Libbi has been a key employee of AUSTREX for the last seven  years and oversees the operational and regulatory processes behind the shipping of livestock to Southeast Asian markets. Prior to this, she worked for Fletcher International Exporters in operations, procurements and sales, and has qualifications in Agribusiness and Animal Production from the University of Queensland. Libbi comes from a mixed farming family business located at Bonshaw in Northern NSW and has held industry representative roles with the Queensland Livestock Exporters’ Association.

Daniel West
Manager, Southern Procurement

6 years with AgTrade (AUSTREX)

 

Daniel joined AUSTREX in 2013 following extensive experience in temperate breeding areas in both Tasmania and the Australian mainland, gained through work with Landmark and Elders. His livestock procurement and logistics role includes matching Australian producers to international premium breeding markets worldwide, including Japan and China. From his based in Trentham, Victoria, Daniel leads livestock procurement and backgrounding across three Australian States, making him responsible for sourcing more than 100,000 cattle and other livestock annually.

Paul Tippett
Manager, Global Breeding
New Zealand

8 years with AgTrade/AUSTREX

Paul leads the AUSTREX team sourcing export livestock from New Zealand and oversees shipping and air freight logistics to international markets. Prior to joining AUSTREX he gained experience in dairy, sheep and beef production and in the bloodstock industry. Paul also spent time with Landmark Global Exports across Australia and New Zealand working in cattle procurement, quarantine and as a stockman accompanying livestock on ships and aircraft. He has additional experience in sourcing cattle from both North and South America for the Chinese market.

Bronte Sutton
Technical Support Veterinarian

5 years with AgTrade/AUSTREX

 

Dr Bronte Sutton studied Veterinary Science at Charles Sturt University. After completing onboard vessel work and her Honours project in the Middle East, Bronte brought practical industry experience to AUSTREX in her initial role as the company’s veterinarian based in Southeast Asia where she worked in intensive beef and dairy production. Now based in Central NSW, Bronte undertakes clinical livestock work and provides technical animal health and welfare support across the AgTrade portfolio’s diverse supply chains.

 

Sheena joined the AgTrade accounting team in 2012 as an Assistant Accountant and has progressed to her existing role of Commercial Manager, Southern Operations. Her core strengths lie in financial and management reporting, stock management and data analytics, allowing her to take a commercial approach to operational and strategic decisions. Sheena strives to achieve process efficiencies by continuous system improvements and using artificial intelligence and robotics. Sheena is a Certified Practising Accountant and holds a Masters Degree in Accounting.
